The Daytona Beach City Commission donated seven city-owned lots for affordable housing to Mid-Florida Housing Partnership. A nonprofit that helps people get into affordable housing. The lots are located in the Downtown Redevelopment Area, the Midtown Redevelopment Area, and the Midtown neighborhood.
The lots have an appraised value of just over $10,000. Two of the parcels are just under 2,300 square feet.
Mid-Florida Housing will use the land to create affordable homes for low- and moderate-income families. Each lot will be developed and sold to a qualified household to be used as their primary residence.
This is the latest in a series of efforts by the city to address the affordable housing crisis. In June, the city donated seven lots to Homes Bring Hope and three properties to the Red River nonprofit for the same purpose.
The city put out a request for proposals for the land in December, and six organizations submitted proposals. Mid-Florida Housing’s proposal was selected because it was the most comprehensive and met the city’s criteria for affordability, sustainability, and design.
The development of the seven lots is expected to take several years. Mid-Florida Housing plans to start construction on the first homes in 2024.
This donation is a significant step forward in the city’s efforts to address the affordable housing crisis. It is a testament to the city’s commitment to providing all residents with the opportunity to live in safe, affordable housing.
