Prepare For Hurricane Season

Hurricane Season

NOAA predicts a near normal Hurricane Season with 5-9 hurricanes. After last year’s hurricane destruction and the season ramping up I want to help you prepare for Hurricane Season.

Here are some tips on how to prepare for hurricanes:

  1. Make a plan. Know your evacuation route and have a plan for where you will go if you need to evacuate. Make sure you have a way to communicate with your family members and friends, such as a cell phone or a ham radio.
  2. Gather supplies. You will need food, water, and other supplies to last for at least 3 days if you are unable to leave your home. This includes non-perishable food, water, medicine, flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, and a portable radio.
  3. Protect your home. Board up windows and doors, and secure loose items in your yard. If you live in a flood-prone area, elevate your furniture and appliances.
  4. Protect your car. Fill your gas tank and park your car in a safe place. If you live in a flood-prone area, you may want to consider parking your car on higher ground.
  5. Take care of your pets. Make sure you have enough food and water for your pets, and have a plan for where you will take them if you need to evacuate.
  6. Stay informed. Listen to the radio or TV for updates on the hurricane. Follow the instructions of local officials.

Stay safe!
Chris
