There’s a lot of rumors about what could be coming to Venetian Bay. Developers are planning a commercial project in New Smyrna Beach’s Venetian Bay community toward the State Road 44 entrance.
The exact purpose of the project is still being decided, but one possibility is a 36-hole miniature golf course with a restaurant/sports bar. The goal is to make something similar to the popular attraction in Orlando called Popstroke. Some residents have opposed this idea, but one of the project partners is Jerry Johnson, Venetian Bay’s original developer. Johnson has said that the restaurant and mini-golf course is an option, but it is a big commitment and the owners have not made a decision. Another possibility is a commercial building with residential units on three floors above street-level retail.
