The DeLand City Commission recently approved a new Deland Community. This 65-unit housing development called Taylor Ridge on the city’s southeast side, covering 28 acres. This approval comes after initial rejection two years ago due to density concerns. The project, leveraging the city’s Transitional Residential Development designation, aims to blend low-density residential and agricultural areas with suburban city living.
Significant to its approval were improvements in storm water management, addressing flooding concerns highlighted by hurricanes in 2022. These changes have shifted some local opposition to support, recognizing efforts to mitigate environmental impacts.
The new Deland Community will feature community amenities such as an activity area, a dog park, and multiuse trails. Despite past opposition, the unanimous approval marks a step forward, with construction plans expected to be submitted soon for the next phase.
