It was a chilly Halloween night, and the moon hung low, casting eerie shadows across Maplewood Estates. Realtor Chris Hoover had a spooky open house planned, complete with cobwebs, flickering candles, and even a fog machine. The house, a grand Victorian with creaky floors and a reputation for ghostly rumors, was the perfect setting for a haunted Halloween night.
Just as Chris was putting the final touches on the decorations, a strange noise echoed from upstairs. The sound was faint at first—a slow, rhythmic creaking, like footsteps on the old wooden floorboards. But who could it be? The house was empty…or so Chris thought.
Determined to investigate, Chris grabbed a flashlight and crept up the winding staircase. The closer they got to the top, the louder the creaking grew. Chris’s heart thumped. Was this the “friendly ghost” the locals had whispered about? The “phantom of Maplewood,” as they called it?
At the end of the dark hallway, the door to the attic stood ajar, swaying slightly. Chris pushed it open with a creak, illuminating a dusty room filled with antique furniture, boxes, and…a shimmering figure?
“Hello?” Chris called out, voice trembling. The figure, draped in a translucent sheet, turned slowly and stared with hollow, glowing eyes.
“Oh no,” Chris muttered. But then the “ghost” stumbled, tripping over the edge of the sheet and falling flat onto a dusty carpet.
“Ow!” the figure groaned, pulling off the sheet to reveal a young woman in a Halloween costume. She was holding a camera, looking embarrassed.
“Uh…surprise?” she mumbled sheepishly. “I’m Jess, from Maplewood Realty. I thought a ghost sighting would make for a good Halloween night promo!”
Chris burst out laughing. “You nearly gave me a heart attack! But…actually, this could be great for business. Imagine the headlines: ‘Maplewood Estates: Haunted House With a Story to Tell!’”
They laughed, brainstorming creative ways to spin the “haunting” into a real estate selling point. A haunted tour, ghost-themed open houses, and even a “ghostly inspection” offer for the brave buyers!
By the end of the night, Chris and Jess had crafted a Halloween mystery so good, people from all over the town were eager to see the haunted house. And with every eerie creak of the floorboards, Chris was sure the old Victorian had stories to tell—perfect for anyone who dared to buy it!
